CA database to help benchmark physician quality
Quality Improvement Monitor, December 9, 2004
The California Association of Physician Groups will build a data repository for its members to benchmark quality, reduce costs, and receive pay-for-performance bonuses from health plans.
Health, laboratory, pharmacy claims data, and lab values will be collected and analyzed. Many physician groups already use this type of technology to analyze their data, but they cannot benchmark it with colleagues.
The database will cost between $4 million and $5 million, according to the physicians' association. It should be operational by January 2005.
