Online intervention helps rural, chronically ill women

EHR Connection, November 30, 2004

Chronically ill women living in rural areas can benefit from online intervention that helps them manage their conditions, reports a study conducted at Montana State University. The 22-week intervention project was designed to provide chronically ill women living in rural, isolated areas with support and health information via electronic means.

According to the Montana State University Web site, the women learned computer skills and how to find and evaluate disease information from the Web. The study participants rated the more interactive features of the project as most important. Overall, women found the program helped them have better control over their condition, researchers concluded. The study, "An evaluation of an online intervention to provide social support and health education," was published in the September/October Computers Informatics Nursing.
