New York Times checks national HIT efforts
EHR Connection, November 30, 2004
The New York Times examined healthcare industry efforts to transition from paper charts to electronic medical records and establish a national health information network.
EHRs "could become building blocks in a nationwide biomedical computer network," according to the Times, and ultimately "eliminate enormous amounts of paper-shuffling" to "save hundreds of billions of dollars and many lives."
The Times called for basic patient information standards to guide pharmaceutical companies, facilities, and insurance companies to improve quality of care and provide for free flow of health information.
