New Mexico legislators allow funding of new ASC
Ambulatory Surgery Reimbursement Update, November 30, 2004
Patients seeking treatment at Gila Regional Medical Center in New Mexico will have new options in the future, thanks to a governing board's decision to help fund the construction of a new ambulatory surgery center at the facility.
On November 18, The Grant County Commission gave their approval to issue a subordinate revenue bond in the amount of $3.85 million to subsidize the funding of an ASC that will feature two state-of-the-art operating suites, according to the Silver City Sun-News.
"We're very excited about this project," said Susan Sherman, director of surgical services for Gila Regional Medical Center, adding that the new ASC would "increase the potential for new surgical services in (the operating room), as well as increase the capacity of patients."
The approval of financial support, which came by unanimous vote of the Grant County commissioners, follows a precedent established by the commissioners of earmarking funds for area hospitals. A 1996 decision by the commission approved the issuance of $9.33 million in hospital refunding revenue bonds, and $4.5 million more was cleared in 2000 for hospital projects.
