Cerner purchase increases physician technology
EHR Connection, November 22, 2004
Kansas City, Mo.-based Cerner Corp. will purchase the medical division of VitalWorks Inc. in Connecticut for $100 million. The division-which sells IT software to hospitals and doctors offices-will add 30,000 physicians raising the total number of Cerner doctors to nearly 130,000.
The companies project the division to have 2004 revenue of about $70 million, according to company reports. The acquisition will enable Cerner to expand its presence among practice-based physicians as the government pushes to build a national health information infrastructure.
