VA launches online personal health records

EHR Connection, November 15, 2004

The Veterans Affairs Department launched its personal health record on the My HealtheVet Web site Thursday, Veterans Day, to provide veterans' access and control over their health information, reports Government Computer News (GCN).

Veterans will be able to personalize their health information using new journals and electronic logs to enter military history, medication use (including over-the-counter products), medical events, test results and allergies, which become their private and secure information, My HealtheVet project manager Ginger Price told GCN. The e-logs track readings for blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart rate.

VA plans to add prescription refill services and display upcoming medical appointments and co-payment balances. By fall, veterans will be able to view and copy portions of their VistA health record-the VA's Information Systems and Technology Architecture that provides veterans' electronic health records-into their My HealtheVet personal health record, according to GCN.
