Healthcare Security Weekly, November 10, 2004
A former hospital pharmacist will appear in court this month on charges of stealing thousandes of dollars from the faciltiy, the Murray Ledger & Times reported.
Annette Owen, 48, was arrested last week for allegedly stealing more than $80,000 from the Medical Arts Pharmacy. Owen worked as a pharmacist at Murray-Calloway County (KY) Hospital for 15 years. The hospital fired her in July after she admitted to stealing $25,000 from the Medical Arts Pharmacy, the Ledger reported. She later paid back the $25,000 and no charges were filed.
However, a hospital audit revealed a discrepancy in the amount of money she admitted stealing. A criminal investigation revealed almost $80,000 missing from the Medical Arts Pharmacy.
