Operation EHR in Hawaii
EHR Connection, November 1, 2004
The Quality Healthcare Alliance, a group of business people and physicians in Hawaii, plans to implement a statewide medical records network this January, according to the Honolulu Advertiser. Physicians and patients will be able to view test results, records, and prescriptions via computer in an effort to improve patient care, boost efficiency, and cut cost.
Project costs are expected to exceed $10 million and project completion will take four years. The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded the Alliance a $500,000 grant for phase one of the project. Once certain project criteria are met, HHS will award the Alliance an additional $1 million.
Only four other states have instituted similar projects--Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Colorado, and Tennessee.
