Newborn's body found in hospital laundry room
Healthcare Security Weekly, October 24, 2004
Police hope hospital security tapes can solve how a newborn's body ended up in a pile of dirty laundry last week at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL, according to Chicago's channel ABC7.
Hospital laundry room workers at the suburban hospital discovered the body of the newborn on Thursday, October 21. There have been no reports of missing newborns in the area.
"The body was, to the best of our knowledge, contained in the laundry as it was brought there. So we're trying to investigate where it possibly could have come from and how it got there," Evanston Police Chief Frank Kaminsky told ABC.
Since St. Francis Hospital's laundry room services several facilities in the area, it's unclear where the newborn may have come from. An autopsy may also provide clues to the newborn's death.
"We have begun a thorough investigation and are working with the appropriate authorities," a hospital statement said.
