OIG outlines 2005 Work Plan
LTC Liability Monitor, October 21, 2004
The Office of Inspector General (OIG) intends to find out whether skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) accurately assess residents and execute appropriate care plans, according to the 2005 fiscal year Work Plan the agency released last week. That's only one of the 13 items the agency will scrutinize in SNFs this fiscal year. The OIG also wants to know whether the prospective payment system has affected nursing home residents' access to services. Other items the OIG will examine include whether facilities used the 3.26% market basket forecast error correction of July 2003 to improve resident care, and the nature and extent of survey and certification deficiencies in nursing homes.
