Hospital security discovers abandoned infant

Healthcare Security Weekly, October 18, 2004

A security officer found a newborn girl inside a book bag outside a Chicago hospital last week, the Washington Times reported.

The baby girl was suffering from hypothermia, but was expected to recover, officials said. An anonymous tip to the Illinois Department of Children and Family services revealed that a premature infant had been abandoned near Mt. Sinai Hospital, the Chicago Tribune reported.

It is unknown how long the infant was outside the hospital. Police are still searching for the child's mother.
