Crack down on late incident reports

Healthcare Security Weekly, October 15, 2004

If your security officers aren't turning in reports in a timely manner, then create a deadline. Most reports should be filed within 24 hours of the incident to ensure that officers don't forget important details, says William Farnsworth, CHPA, director of safety and security at St. Vincent's Health System in Jacksonville, FL.

If officers ignore the deadline, find an incentive so they will stay late and complete the report. Farnsworth pays officers overtime to guarantee that reports are filed the day of the incident.
