Florida Healthcare System Sues MedQuist
EHR Connection, September 24, 2004
Florida's Memorial Healthcare System filed a lawsuit against MedQuist, Inc., a medical transcription company, alleging 18 claims of fraud, negligence, and violations of the federal RICO anti-racketeering law.
South Broward Hospital district alleged MedQuist wrongfully overcharged for transcription services and charged clients for company overhead costs. The lawsuit names and accuses several current and former senior executives of creating "fraudulent schemes to improperly inflate invoices submitted for payment," according to Health Data Management Weekly.
The lawsuit claims MedQuist directed managers to lie when asked directly about invoice calculations, deal aggressively with clients who challenged bills, and refuse to provide supporting documentation for invoices, reports HDMWeekly.
