Nursing home explosion lawsuit nets $15 million
LTC Liability Monitor, September 23, 2004
Five companies will pay a total of $15 million to settle a lawsuit related to a deadly nursing home explosion, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
The collapse of boiler supports ruptured a gas main which led to the 1999 incident-and caused five deaths-at Clara Barton Terrace Convalescent Center in Flint, MI.
Nursing home operator Continuum of Flint, Goyette Mechanical Company, Inc., and Beecher Manor Inc. will each pay $1 million. Buildings and grounds owner Ventas will pay $5 million, and Hartford Steam Boiler and Inspection Co. will settle the remainder of the suit.
All companies denied liability for the explosion, according to AP.
