HHS launches program to address liability crisis

LTC Liability Monitor, September 23, 2004

In an effort to provide litigation relief to the healthcare industry, Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Tommy G. Thompson announced Tuesday a pilot program to resolve medical liability cases more efficiently.

The "Early Offers" program-which Thompson said could become a national model-applies to medical malpractice claims against federally funded community health centers overseen by HHS' Health Resources and Services Administration or Indian Health Service programs, according to an HHS press release.

The program is intended to help both providers and patients, by cutting down on expensive, time-consuming litigation and helping the patient receive compensation in a more timely matter. Click here to read the press release.
