Nurse under investigation for drug theft

Healthcare Security Weekly, September 12, 2004

Washington police are investigating a Cascade Medical Center nurse for stealing painkillers after an officer found him passed out in a car with a hypodermic needle in his arm, the Associated Press reported.

John Loren Wells, 48, of Leavenworth was hospitalized and later arrested after being discovered in the car near the justice center on August 25. He faces charges of illegal possession of a prescription narcotic, possession of a controlled substance, first-degree malicious mischief, third-degree theft, physical control of a vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Wells reportedly worked in the hospital emergency room for the past four years. He is on unpaid administrative suspension pending the investigation.
