NJ hospitals ramp up security

Healthcare Security Weekly, August 23, 2004

Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) increased security measures last week after the latest terrorist warnings, the Princeton Packet reported.

New Jersey and New York hospitals received warnings that terrorists may target healthcare facilities moments following a catastrophic attack. Last week, the state office of counterterrorism also warned emergency medical service (EMS) companies to look for suspicious behavior. Two EMS companies and a hospital emergency room recently received inquiries about necessary credentials to operate an emergency vehicle.

The recent threats prompted additional emergency and disaster preparation, said PHCS Vice President of Support Services Patricia Lamb.

For example, Lamb met with local law enforcement officials to ensure they understood the hospital system's plan.
