ALF charged in resident-on-resident abuse case
LTC Liability Monitor, August 12, 2004
A Massachusetts assisted living facility (ALF) was charged last month with staff negligence in a resident-on-resident abuse case, the Boston Globe reported.
According to the lawsuit, staff at The Falls at Cordingly Dam in Newton failed to protect the safety of a resident who broke her tailbone and pelvis after another resident pushed her over and struck her in the face with a metal cane. The suit also alleged staff who witnessed the incident did not react quickly enough to stop it and failed to call for medical help until more than a week had passed.
The family of the injured resident is seeking $500,000 in damages from the ALF, owned by Benchmark Assisted Living of Wellesley Hills, MA. Benchmark found no evidence of wrongdoing in its investigation of the incident and denied the allegations, reported the Globe.
