More risk retention groups form for nursing homes

LTC Liability Monitor, August 12, 2004

The number of risk retention groups (RRGs) forming to cover healthcare providers-including nursing homes, physicians, hospitals, and dentists-is on the rise, according to the Property & Casualty/Risk & Benefits Management Edition of National Underwriter.

Out of the 160 RRGs operating as of June, 86 are providing liability healthcare coverage, with Vermont and South Carolina serving as domiciles for the greatest number of healthcare RRGs. Of the 15 RRGs specifically for nursing homes, South Carolina regulates six, the greatest number.

Additionally, the District of Columbia regulates three, Vermont weighs in with two, and Arizona, Nevada, Montana, and Florida with one each, according to National Underwriter.
