Cheney supports cap on malpractice awards
LTC Liability Monitor, July 21, 2004
Speaking at the Medical College of Ohio in Toledo on Monday, Vice President Dick Cheney promoted a $250,000 cap on medical malpractice awards, according to the Washington Post.
Cheney said capping awards is a necessary part of the solution to the liability crisis-and without it, the trend of skyrocketing insurance premiums and healthcare costs will continue.
A Department of Health and Human Services report found legal liability fears contribute $60-$108 billion to the $1.6 trillion spent annually on healthcare, the Washington Post reported.
