AWP reimbursement limits down for two drugs

Pharmacy Regulation Resource, July 21, 2004

Payment limits for two drugs-the precancerous skin-lesion treatment aminolevulinic acid HCl and the fulvestrant injector for hormone receptor-positive metastatic breast cancer-are down to 85% of average wholesale price (AWP) for the remainder of 2004, according to Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Transmittal 90 released June 25.

Two payment limits took effect for services on January 1:

aminolevulinic acid HCl (topical), HCPCS code J7308: $111.47
fulvestrant (injection), HCPCS code J9395: $81.57
Each figure supercedes the 95% AWP limit published January 30.
