Get hospital staff involved in security

Healthcare Security Weekly, July 19, 2004

Since security can't always be in every part of the hospital, getting hospital staff involved in security can make a difference in crime at your facility.

Security needs to remember that crimes can occur in hospitals during open visitation, as well as after hours, says Fredrick Roll, CHPA-F, CPP, president of Roll Enterprises, Inc., in Morrison, CO.

"Make staff aware that they are responsible for security too," Roll says. "This has to be a team effort between security and staff members."

Security directors must convey to hospital staff that being aware of suspicious people is part of taking care of their own property, themselves, patients, and the security process, Roll says.
