Alabama joins Tennessee in full sprinkler system push
LTC Liability Monitor, July 1, 2004
Alabama nursing homes must install full sprinkler systems during the next few years, announced the State Committee of Public Health and the Alabama Nursing Home Association in a press conference.
Seventy nursing homes will have to make adjustments to their current systems to comply with the newly passed amendment, according to the Associated Press (AP).
Seven nursing homes will start from scratch and nine facilities with multiple stories must install complete systems by January 1, 2006, while 30 single-story nursing homes have until September 1, 2006, to get their full systems done.
Finally, there are 24 facilities with closets or isolated rooms uncovered by fire protection, and they must install full sprinkler systems by February 1, 2006, AP reported.
This follows in the footsteps of Tennessee legislation requiring its nursing homes to install sprinkler systems by November 1, 2006.
