Troubled Minnesota SNF fined $39,000
LTC Liability Monitor, June 24, 2004
A Minnesota skilled nursing facility (SNF) being sued by the state's attorney general for housing sex offenders alongside frail elderly residents must also answer to the state health department-to the tune of $39,000 in fines, the Associated Press (AP) reported.
Health officials reported last week that care problems identified during an April 5 visit to Concordia Care Center in Minneapolis were not corrected when they returned for a follow-up visit on May 28. The state levied a $500-a-day fine starting June 1 for failure to adhere to the plan of correction in addition to a $7,500-a-day fine for four days during which residents' health was placed in immediate jeopardy.
The SNF is also facing the threat of losing Medicare and Medicaid money for new residents beginning July 7 if it remains noncompliant. Concordia denied the attorney general's allegations and planned to appeal the state's findings, AP reported.
