Black bear takes fatal visit to VA hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, June 22, 2004
Police shot a full-grown black bear last week, after it wandered into Carillion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount, VA, the Associated Press reports.
Around 9 p.m. on June 15, the 300-pound bear ventured into the hospital by activating door sensors outside.
The bear walked through hallways, eventually ending up in a computer room with glass windows. Police nearby yanked the computer room door shut, capturing the bear.
Police scrapped original plans to sedate the bear when hospital officials expressed concern about the bear getting loose. The hospital was at capacity. An officer shot and killed the bear.
No injuries were reported.
