Judge dismisses case against 12 SNF employees
LTC Liability Monitor, June 10, 2004
Citing lack of evidence, a judge last week dismissed charges of elder abuse and neglect against twelve employees of a California skilled nursing facility, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
In January, a grand jury indicted the twelve after the state attorney general conducted hidden camera surveillance at Sunbridge Care & Rehabilitation for Escondido East. Ten of the twelve employees were also indicted on allegations of falsifying medical records.
The allegations concerned the care of one resident, whose family agreed to the hidden surveillance.
During trial, defense attorneys argued prosecutors did not show enough evidence to demonstrate what each employee did or did not do that put the resident's health at risk, according to the Union-Tribune.
