Montreal hospital beefs up security after student fakes study
Healthcare Security Weekly, June 1, 2004
A Montreal hospital tightened security after discovering an alleged student entered restricted areas and pretended to study medical staff stress levels, according the Montreal Gazette.
A doctor discovered the student's false study after growing suspicion of the study's length, a hospital spokesman said last week.
The student, 22, spent a year following medical residents and recording stress levels until hospital security barred him from the facility. He even carried his own hospital identification issued by staff. The hospital is investigating whether he is even a student at a local university.
During the year, the student entered restricted hospital areas, watched operations, and followed medical residents on their patient visits.
The hospital plans to increase security measures, especially the process for getting a hospital identification card. The hospital will continue an investigation and hasn't determined whether to turn the matter over to Montreal police.
