Man attempts rape at Pennsylvania hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, May 24, 2004
A man at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie, PA, allegedly tried to rape a woman in a hospital maternity ward last week, according to 35WSEE Newswatch.
Darrien Lee Shields, 43, stripped naked and climbed into the patient's hospital bed, police say. The patient recently had given birth.
Hospital security heard the woman scream and caught Shields. The woman was not injured.
Shields faces numerous charges including attempted rape, indecent assault, indecent exposure, and unlawful restraint.
Shields' girlfriend had given birth and stayed in that same room days earlier, but he didn't know the alleged victim, hospital staff says.
