OIG to scrutinize assisted living

LTC Liability Monitor, May 19, 2004

The assisted living industry is under the Office of Inspector General's (OIG) microscope, according to the National Center for Assisted Living's (NCAL) e-newsletter Connections.

The agency is conducting an audit of Medicaid funds that includes a review of claims paid to assisted living facilities in New York and New Jersey, the OIG told NCAL. Emphasizing that the audit is not an investigation of wrongdoing, the agency added it will also be examining quality of care and environmental issues for assisted living beneficiaries.

The audit-which will likely be completed in 2005-currently involves only those two states, but it may be expanded to others, according to NCAL Connections.
