Hospital police officer shoots man in patient parking lot
Healthcare Security Weekly, May 19, 2004
A Veterans Affairs Medical Center police officer shot a man who tried to drive over two officers in the Jackson, MS, hospital parking lot last week, according to The Clarion-Ledger.
The hospital officers tried to stop the man and three others from stealing a car in the parking lot. The shot suspect is being treated at a local hospital, while the other three suspects remain in police custody. Police have not released the names of the suspects.
Witnesses said up to five shots were fired.
"The police officers requested the occupants to halt the vehicle and turn off the engine," said Mario Rossilli, public affairs officers for the hospital.
"The suspect vehicle then attempted to run over the officers and leave the property. Shots were fired by VA police officers at the vehicle."
The VA police officers suffered minor injuries, Rossilli said.
