Healthcare Security Weekly, May 14, 2004
Two men stabbed a security guard was stabbed in the stomach with a chisel outside of Pendlebury Children's Hospital in Salford, England on April 24, according to the Salford Advertiser.
The security guard, 29, was conducting his usual rounds outside the facility at 1:30 a.m. when he saw two men loitering on the grounds. When he approached the men, they lashed out with the chisel, stabbing the guard. The guard collapsed and the two men ran off. Police are still searching for the two suspects.
The guard received hospital care for two days following the incident and is expected to make a full recovery.
The incident is under investigation, the hospital says. Since the men didn't enter the hospital, officials say there is no risk at the facility.
"The hospital takes the safety and security of parents, staff, and visitors seriously," a hospital spokesperson said.
