Tip: prevent medical equipment theft tip
In a year, a hospital can lose nearly $1,000,000 in medical equipment thefts alone.
Florida is one state hit hard by medical-equipment theft. In the last two years, thieves reportedly hit more than 50 hospitals over an 18-month period. To combat medical-equipment thefts, Charles McCormack, chief of security at Baptist Hospital in Miami added tighter access controls, especially in the endoscopy area.
However, McCormack says employee participation in prevention is one of the most efficient and effective ways to protect equipment. Employees need to know that theft occurs, the impact theft has on the hospital, what they should do to secure equipment, and how to report any suspicious activity, he says.
