Police investigate resident’s fatal fall
LTC Liability Monitor, April 28, 2004
A 54-year-old nursing home resident died after falling through a window five stories to the ground, according to the [Chicago] Daily Herald.
A nurse discovered the resident on the ground after noticing the window's screen was visibly pushed out. Staff at Lee Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Des Plaines, IL, reported seeing the resident fifteen minutes prior to the fall, but no staff or residents saw the incident.
Although police told the Herald they believe it was accidental, an investigation and autopsy are underway to determine the cause of death.
