JCAHO keeps infection control in 2005 safety goal proposal

The JCAHO may carry over its infection control National Patient Safety Goal into the set of 2005 goals it is currently reviewing.

<P>The accreditor currently seeks comments from healthcare professionals on its proposed 2005 goals before its board of commissioners adopts them this summer. The deadline for online submission of these comments is April 30.

<P>The new proposal includes a substantial number of revisions and new goals covering medications, reducing patient falls, and reducing the risk of surgical fires. The document also includes the goal of reducing the risk of healthcare-associated infections, which the JCAHO added to its list of 2004 goals.
