Girl, 13, raped at Bellevue Hospital
Healthcare Security Weekly, April 18, 2004
New York City police arrested a man on Friday, April 9, in connection with the rape of a 13-year-old girl who awaited eye surgery at Bellevue Hospital Center, the Associated Press reports.
Hector Ramirez, 43, faces charges of rape and assault after he allegedly lured the 13-year-old girl from her hospital room into a conference room and raped her.
Police say Ramirez has a long criminal history with 12 previous arrests. He was visiting his wife, a psychiatric patient at Bellevue Hospital.
The attack occurred at 7:30 a.m. on April 9, when Ramirez allegedly stopped in the girl's room and began reading her medical charts. The girl thought the man was a hospital employee because he looked at her charts and inquired about her health, police say. He asked the girl to leave the room and led her to a nearby conference room, where he attacked her.
When police found Ramirez hours later, he had scratch marks on his face. The girl reportedly scratched Ramirez during the attack.
