Man caught on tape stealing hospital computer
Healthcare Security Weekly, April 12, 2004
A Bronx man was charged with stealing a computer from Putnam Hospital Center last week, after the crime was caught on a security camera, the New York Journal News reports.
Steven Tyska, 50, faces charges of fourth-degree grand larceny. Police went to Tyska's home last week, arrested him, and recovered the stolen computer.
In December, Tyska allegedly went to the hospital to visit a patient. While walking past an office, he reportedly saw the computer at an unattended reception desk and decided to steal it, wrapping the computer in a plastic trash bag and carrying it under his arm.
Hospital security discovered the theft on a video camera, which the police used to identify Tyska. If convicted, Tyska faces up to four years in prison.
