Sprinkler show-and-tell required for Tennessee SNFs
LTC Liability Monitor, March 26, 2004
Tennessee skilled nursing facilities (SNFs), assisted living facilities (ALFs), and residential homes for the aged (RHAs) must now disclose to prospective residents and families whether they have full sprinkler systems.
Governor Phil Bredesen signed the bill into law March 18, according to the Nashville [TN] City Paper. The bill requires the facilities to post the information in their lobbies, individual rooms, and on their Web sites.
The law is the first step in a legislative effort to require full sprinkler systems in all SNFs, ALFs, and RHAs, Bredesen said at the bill signing. The changes followed fatal fires in a Nashville nursing home in September and a home for the aged fire in January, the Paper reported.
