OIG remains focused on nursing home staffing compliance
LTC Liability Monitor, March 11, 2004
The Office of Inspector General (OIG) continues to scrutinize nursing homes' compliance with federal and state staffing requirements-releasing another report last week in addition to two last month. The agency's most recent investigation of Mountain View Community Living Center in Clayton, GA, found the facility to be in compliance with the state staffing minimum of 2.5 hours per resident day.
However, the OIG determined that the facility's posting of 2.87 direct care hours on the Nursing Home Compare Web site did not match the OIG's calculations of 2.72 hours. Additionally, the facility failed to conduct a background check on one direct care employee.
The agency reached an agreement with Mountain View's administrator, requiring the facility to strengthen internal controls to ensure background checks and independently confirm the validity of direct care hours provided for the Nursing Home Compare Web site.
