Man exposes self and head butts police officer in emergency room
Healthcare Security Weekly, March 8, 2004
A Millville, NJ, man faces sex offense and aggravated assault charges after allegedly exposing himself to a child and later head butting a police officer at the South Jersey Hospital-Bridgeton emergency room two weeks ago.
On February 20, a juvenile contacted police alleging a man had exposed himself. The juvenile provided a description of the suspect. Police searched for the man and found Ronald W. Simmons, 41, dressed in the same clothes as the juvenile's description. When Simmons stood up, his pants fell down, police say.
Police took Simmons to the crisis treatment facility at the South Jersey Hospital-Bridgeton for evaluation, NJ.com reports.
Once at the hospital, police handcuffed and shackled Simmons to a wheelchair, when he used his legs to keep from being pushed through a doorway. Then Simmons allegedly head butted the police officer.
After the alleged attack, a hospital security officer and police officer restrained Simmons to a bed. Simmons received three stitches to close a cut above his eye and a contusion on his cheek, police say.
