Two hospital security officers fired after allegedly driving car into man

Healthcare Security Weekly, March 1, 2004

Two security officers, at Norwalk Hospital in Connecticut were fired last week after allegedly driving the hospital's security vehicle into a visitor, the Hours reports.
The two security officers, Jason Benitez, 19, and Eric Ingersoll, 26, are under arrest and face charges of conspiracy to commit third-degree assault. Benitez also faces charges of giving a false statement.
The alleged victim, Jimmy Greene, 46, is also under arrest for allegedly slashing one of the security officers with a drill bit and faces a charge of first-degree assault.
When the security officers asked Greene to leave an unauthorized area in the hospital, a disturbance ensued, police said. The officers followed the victim to the parking lot and asked him not to return to the hospital.
In the parking lot, Greene reportedly questioned why the officers continued to follow him and an argument took place. Greene used a drill bit to slash Ingersoll, he says in self-defense.
The officers then chased Greene, eventually hitting him with the car. Greene received minor lacerations and bruises.
"He wasn't hit by the car and I didn't get out of the vehicle to confront him," Ingersoll told the Hours. "Jason and I were just trying to do our jobs and protect the rest of the hospital from someone who we were told to be on the lookout for."
