State-run malpractice insurer gets okay from state Senate in Ohio
Physician Practice Advisor, February 25, 2004
The Ohio state Senate unanimously passed legislation last week that would allow the state's insurance director to create a state-run medical malpractice insurer, according to Business Insurance Daily News.
The bill would authorize the state's insurance director to establish the Medical Liability Underwriting Association if the medical malpractice market gets worse. The organization would provide primary insurance coverage for doctors unable to find it.
The legislation passed Ohio's House of Representatives in January, and the governor is expected to sign it.
