During arrest, woman assaults hospital security and police
Healthcare Security Weekly, February 23, 2004
A woman was arrested in an Indiana hospital's emergency room last week after assaulting a police officer and security guard.
Laura Burcham, 18, of Valparaiso, IN, attempted to leave the Porter Memorial Hospital's emergency room with a minor over whom she had no authority. When security guards tried to stop her from leaving, she punched on officer in the head, the Post-Tribune reports.
Buchram faces charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, battery, and battery to law enforcement and taken to the county jail.
When police attempted to secure Burcham in the squad car, she kicked and head-butted an officer. Police sprayed her with a "chemical agent," to calm her down, the Post reports.
