CNA charged with resident abuse
LTC Liability Monitor, February 12, 2004
A certified nursing assistant (CNA) was charged with nine counts of assault and battery and five counts of patient abuse for allegedly abusing Alzheimer's residents at Cranberry Pointe Rehabilitation in Harwich, MA.
Both staff and visitors at the Cape Cod facility notified administrators of the abuse, who in turn reported it to the state Department of Public Health and the attorney general's office, according to the Associated Press (AP).
If convicted, the CNA will face a maximum 2 1/2 year jail sentence and a $1,000 fine for each count of assault and battery, and two years' jail time and $5,000 in fines for each count of patient abuse, reported the AP.
