Substandard care costs nursing home $3.7M
LTC Liability Monitor, February 12, 2004
Poor care at four Kentucky nursing homes will cost Kindred Nursing Centers Limited Partnership $3.7 million, reported the Lexington Herald Leader. A state investigation uncovered a laundry list of problems including dehydration, serious injuries from improper restraint use, untreated infections and wounds, failure to administer medications, and failure to recognize significant changes in residents.
According to the settlement announced this week by the state attorney general, the Louisville, KY-based company will spend $900,000 over three years to improve training for direct-care staff and start a preceptor program.
Additionally, the company will pay $357,752 to the state Department of Medicaid Services, $500,000 into a state nursing scholarship fund, and nearly $97,000 to cover the state's investigation costs, reported the Leader.
