Untreated pressure sores lead to criminal charges
LTC Liability Monitor, February 5, 2004
An Albuquerque, NM–based nursing home faces criminal charges of neglect after a resident died from untreated skin sores that became infected, reported the Albuquerque Tribune.
Florida-based HQM of West Mesa, LLC,—which managed the center—and four employees are named in the suit alleging one count of resident abuse resulting in death, and multiple counts of neglect for substantial pain or incapacitation. A physician's report for the Medicaid Fraud Division of the Attorney General's Office stated that medical records of six residents show "painful skin ulcerations" that could have been prevented, according to the Tribune.
Additionally, HQM faces Medicaid fraud charges in excess of $20,000 for filing excessive, multiple, or incomplete claims. The nursing home is currently under the management of Laurel Skies Healthcare, LLC.
