Message of 230,000 docs is clear: Protect patients now!
Physician Practice Advisor, February 18, 2004
Doctors for Medical Liability Reform (DMLR), a new coalition of 230,000 physicians, launched a campaign last week urging U.S. senators to support federal medical liability reform legislation that would cap non-economic damages awarded in medical liability cases. The Senate blocked similar legislation in July 2003 despite support from the House of Representatives and President George W. Bush.
"People are dying because of politics," DMLR spokesperson, Dr. Gail Rosseau said in a press release. "Not because we don't have the technology, not because we don't have the doctors, but because astronomical medical liability insurance rates are taking doctors away from our patients at an alarming rate."
