Woman plays nurse and walks off with cash

Healthcare Security Weekly, February 2, 2004

A woman impersonated a nurse to con a security officer at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC, out of cash.

Rock Hill police are investigating the incident, which occurred on October 4 in the women's center, according to the Rock Hill Herald.

Rock Hill Police Detective David Hanoka told the Herald that the woman dressed as a nurse and told a security officer that she worked for PMC. She also told the officer she needed money to buy a bus ticket, since her father died in New York, the Herald reports.

The security officer went home and came back to the hospital with a $25 check that he gave the woman, Hanoka says. Police are also investigating whether the suspect took $30 from a woman's purse, and a stethoscope valued at $200.

A 53-year-old woman reported the incident last week, after seeing a television program about a Charlotte area woman wanted for similar charges, the Herald reports.
