Elderly woman assaulted and robbed in hospital parking lot
Healthcare Security Weekly, February 16, 2004
A Missouri hospital may add outside surveillance cameras after a 83-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed in the hospital parking lot last Sunday.
While leaving the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, the woman says a young man knocked her down and took her purse, according to the Wayneville Daily Guide. The woman sustained no injuries.
The local police department couldn't capture the perpetrator, the Daily Guide reports.
But as a result of the crime, the hospital is beefing up security. Staff is on watch for suspicious activity. In addition, the hospital is in the process of installing surveillance cameras inside the building's public areas, as well as looking into cameras in the parking lot, the Daily Guide reports.
The hospital employs 14 security officers, who work as off-duty law enforcement officers. There is usually one security officer on staff at all times, the Daily Guide reports.
