ACDIS, the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists, is pleased to introduce the 2012 CDI Professional of the Year and two winners of the 2012 Recognition of CDI Professional Achievement award. All three candidates were nominated by their peers and final selections were made by the 2012 ACDIS Conference Committee.

The ACDIS 2012 CDI Professional of the Year is Cathy Seluke, RN, BSN, ACM, CCDS, Supervisor of Clinical Documentation Compliance at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Waterville, ME.

The two winners of 2012 Recognition of CDI Professional Achievement are Robert S. Hodges, BSN, MSN, RN, CCDS, Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist at Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center in Saginaw, MI , and Dee Schad, RN, BSN, CCDS, Director of Care Coordination and CDI at Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville, IN.

"We salute Cathy, Robert, and Dee for the contributions they make in CDI, not only within their facilities, but as ambassadors to the broader CDI profession," said Brian Murphy, ACDIS Director.

"CDI professionals demonstrate expertise in concurrent medical record review and clarifying physician documentation. They possess extraordinary clinical knowledge and bring an understanding of government coding and reimbursement regulations to the table. These three individuals are outstanding examples of the best in the profession, " Murphy added.

Seluke received multiple nominations from her coworkers. She has been involved with MaineGeneral's program since it started more than 10 years ago. She was recognized as being instrumental in creating a valuable CDI team and leading the hospital's successful program to excellent outcomes. MaineGeneral’s CDI staff and physicians describe her as inspiring and innovative. She also runs a local ACDIS chapter.

Hodges developed the CDI program at the Aleda E. Lutz Medical Center. He was instrumental in developing a national VHA standardized provider query policy and process for use throughout VA Medical Centers nationwide.

Schad organized her local ACDIS chapter (Southern Indiana/Louisville, Kentucky) and serves as president. She ensures the members receive on-going relevant education and networking opportunities. On an organizational level she continues to help develop her hospital's CDI program. Schad was recently selected to serve on the national ACDIS advisory board.

Hodges, Schad, and Seluke received their awards in May on the opening day of the Fifth Annual ACDIS conference in San Diego.
