Press Releases, December 7, 2011

HCPro, Inc. (www.hcpro.com), a leading provider of nursing education and management resources, is pleased to announce the winners of the annual Nursing Image Awards.

The Nursing Image Awards recognize nurses and nurse leaders who have helped elevate the image of nursing through exceptional leadership, teamwork, or clinical accomplishments. The awards celebrate an image of nursing excellence upheld by commitments to improving patient care, quality outcomes, nurse satisfaction, and the healthcare environment.

The winners and runners up listed below were selected from hundreds of entries in two categories:

Image of Nursing in Leadership
Tracy Williams, RN, DNP, senior vice president and system CNO for Norton Healthcare, Louisville, KY, received this award for embodying a positive image of nursing through her leadership.

"What struck us about Tracy was her action-oriented leadership," says Elizabeth Petersen, associate editorial director, HCPro, Inc., and member of the judging panel. "She's created real, measurable change in her organization and she seems to have found that wonderful balance between practical and visionary management."

Runners up are:

  • Kelly Gipson, BSN, RN, associate patient safety officer for York Hospital in York, PA
  • Mary Helen Forrest, chief nursing officer, UAMS Medical Center, Little Rock, AR

Image of Nursing in Clinical Practice
Cheryl Lillegraven, clinical nurse specialist at Iowa Health Des Moines (IH-DM), in Des Moines was honored with this award for embodying a positive image of nursing through clinical excellence.

"Cheryl's work as a clinical nurse specialist at IH-DM is pioneering, but its her unwavering commitment to her patients, her peers, and the profession that is most impressive," says Petersen.

Runners up are:

  • SICU Nursing Team at the University of Michigan Health System in Ann Arbor, MI
  • Julie Corey, RN, at UPMC Hamot in Erie, PA
